Been Quite a While

Well, it’s been a really long time since I’ve been on here.  Trying to get the family moved to our retirement home in South Carolina.  My military retirement is getting closer.

Haven’t done a lot of crocheting but am picking it back up.  Working on an ami for my son, as well as a couple ripple afghans.  Once I get the hubby and kids moved, I’ll have more time to crochet.   Well, I pulled a muscle in my back so it’s time for some more meds.  I’ll try to do better at posting.

Thanks to all the Veterans

Since today is Veteran’s Day, I just wanted to send out a big thank you to all veterans.  I know how much it means to just get a “thanks for what you do” as I am also a veteran.  While I haven’t had to actually travel to the desert and fight with my comrades, my thoughts are with them everyday.  I am so thankful for all they do and all they sacrifice.

Another Purse

I made this purse for a co-workers niece.  I like the way it turned out.  I made it from a pattern but can’t tell you which one as I can’t find it amongst my many patterns.  I found the pattern on someone’s blog, I think.  Anyway, it’s just the cutest thing.  I love the ruffle around the top and this was such a quick and easy purse to make.blue-purse

Purses

purses

I made a couple of purses for the daughters of one of the docs I work with.  I did use a pattern but it really became an original since I’ve never been able to follow a pattern the right way.  The handle was my own design as well.  It was supposed to be a dc handle but I have problems with finding the last stitch in the row, so it turned out to be a zigzag handle.  It adds character and I really like the way it came out.

Tried Something New

Seems everytime I find a pattern I like for my kids afghans, I try it for a little bit, then hate it.  I think I’ve started their afghans about 5 times each.  Well, I tried a new pattern the other day and it’s so quick and easy that I think this is finally the pattern I’m going to stick with.  It is the log cabin pattern from Vanna’s newest book (the one that she uses her Vanna’s Choice yarn).  It took some getting used to stitching on the ends of the rows, but after a few of them, it got easier.  I’m so excited.  It also taught me how to do the hdc stitch.  Can’t believe I didn’t try this stitch sooner, it’s so easy.  Well, I’ll post more soon.

Merry Christmas!!

It’s been a while.  I’ve been busy with college classes, work and family life in general.  Hubby and I just finished up our latest classes on our journey to our degrees and they’ve been tough.  We finally have some time to relax during the holidays before classes start up again in January.

I have another new set of hooks and I really love them.  My last post, I know it was way back in May, I wrote about my new Silvalume hooks.  Wellllllllllll………now I have a set of Susan Bates bamboo handled Silvalume hooks and they’re even better than the regular ones.  They even come in sizes L, M, and N.  I’ve been working on some things but nothing’s completed yet.  I do need to find the pictures of the purses I made for my doc’s little girls.  They turned out so cute.

Well, that’s about all for now.  Just waiting for Christmas morning.  I’m sure my hubby and boys got me some gift cards to some of my favorite craft stores so I can buy more yarn.  Just what I need to add the huge stash I already have.  Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

New Hooks!

I love, love, love my new hooks!!!  I went out this past week and bought all new hooks.  Now, I’m all for being a loyal person.  My grandma taught me to crochet with Red Heart yarn and a Boye crochet hook.  Well, I really like Red Heart yarn and I own every hook made by Boye.  I will continue to use Red Heart yarn but I refuse to continue my loyalty to Boye crochet hooks.  I’m really sorry, Grandma.  They snag my yarn, they drag really bad, drop my yarn constantly and they just all around make me nuts.  I decided to try Susan Bates Silvalume hooks and it’s like a whole different crochet world.  No snagging my yarn, no dragging, no dropping stitches and just an all around great feeling hook.  I love them.  Did I also mention that Susan Bates hooks are made by none other than the makers of Red Heart Yarn?  I guess I didn’t, but they are, so I guess technically I’m still being loyal to someone. Oh, and I also have all the sizes of Crystalites plastic hooks as well and they are just as good.  They do stick a little but I’ve used the trick from Crochetville about running wax paper over them and it works like a charm.  I think I’d also like to try the Bates Quicksilvers.  Well, I’m off to finish my next project… a couple of purses for one of my docs 2 little girls.  Will publish pics when I get them done.  Talk to you soon…

Welcome to my crochet world!

I got totally “hooked” on crochet (pun is completely intended) about a year ago.  My grandma taught me when I was about 10 (we won’t discuss how long ago that was) but I never really appreciated it until now.  I’m no pro by any means but it’s fun, relaxing, and I so enjoy it.  I’ve completed one project but I have about 20 works in progress.  I hope you visit often and enjoy what I have to share (little as it may be) about crochet.  Until next time……
